With every beautifully uncomplicated dish, sophistication and charm are just as prevalent as the homegrown and seasonal ingredients used in its preparation.  Whether enjoying breakfast, lunch, dinner or cocktails in the urban-meets-comfort restaurant, or having a special event catered, Spoon delivers a hearty helping of the personal touch.

A Chef's Spoon is Her Offering.

A lot of New York street-smarts combined with the charm of a girl who spent half her young life at her family’s upstate home, have made Melissa Chmelar who she is. And who she is, is evident in her thriving restaurant and catering business Spoon.

It was during those long weekends and summer vacations that Melissa developed a keen interest in food and a respect for seasonality. Under the watchful eye of her mother, Melissa tapped maple trees, pickled, jammed and even churned butter from a local jersey cow. But the food sophisticate in her led Melissa to enrol at the London location of the world-renowned Le Cordon Bleu, where she received the Grand Diploma.

Satisfied, but still looking for her true self, Melissa returned to New York and completed a degree in another passion of hers; film and photography. While working her way through the art world, Melissa found pleasure in cooking for photo shoots. This curiosity grew into an obsession and Melissa left the film world and opened Spoon catering company in her walkup Chelsea apartment. The catering business grew rapidly and she moved operations into a commercial kitchen. As word spread of her simple, honest and quality driven cuisine, the catering business evolved into a small retail store, taking over a 200 square foot shop in Manhattan. As her clientele grew, Melissa bowed to popular demand and opened a second, full-service restaurant - tbsp.- right next door.

Melissa is now concentrating on her third outpost of Spoon which opens in August of 2016. The very personal full-service kitchen and bar offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, classic cocktails and an array of wines and beverages hand-picked by Melissa. Most importantly, Spoon showcases the homegrown, seasonal and stunningly-simple cuisine Spoon and Melissa synonymously are known for, all in an urban yet warm setting that is a respite from the bustling streets of the city.
